Bel Air Independence Day

Schedule of Events: Wednesday, July 4th, 2012 All events are free unless otherwise noted. Although every effort has been made to keep this list accurate, this information is subject to change as personnel and arrangements develop during the spring and early summer. Please call 410-893-4444 after June 1, 2012, for full information. Events will be held at various locations in the Town of Bel Air, according to the maps linked below. Locations are subject to further change, so please check back! Programs with maps showing all locations are available free of charge at various locations in and around the Town of Bel Air beginning on or about June 26, 2012, and also at the Pancake Breakfast on the morning of July 4, and at the daytime event locations that same day. Refreshments and Souvenirs are available at various sites morning, afternoon and evening. Restrooms and First Aid Stations are also located at various sites morning, afternoon and evening. Note: information about events, including locations, prices, times, etc., are subject to change without warning, so please check back frequently or call 410-893-4444 after June 1, 2012!

7:00-11:00 am	Blueberry Pancake and Sausage Breakfast	Fee: $6.00 Adults; $4.00 Children under 10 — NEW BEL AIR HIGH SCHOOL (side entrance facing Baltimore Pike)
8:30 am	Horseshoe Pitching	Location: Rockfield Park. Registration 8:00 am
9:00 am	Hamster Races	Location: Shamrock Park. Registration 8:45 am
9:00 am	Hays House Tours and Children's Games	Enjoy guided tours by docents in period costumes in Bel Air's oldest house! See antique quilts on display!
9:30 am	Turtle Derby	Location: Shamrock Park. Registration 9:00 am Turtle Rules! Pursuant to Maryland Department of Natural Resources restrictions on turtles captured in the wild, for the benefit of these creatures (many of which are now endangered), no turtle may be entered whose carapace is less than 4" long. Limit 1 member of each turtle species (Box, Painted, Spotted, Redbellied, etc.) per adult. 3 turtle limit per entrant.
10:00 am	Hays House Patriotic Concert by the Catherine Street Consort	The Catherine Street Consort plays period music and country dance tunes using a full family of recorders, along with guitar and percussion. Don't miss it!
10:30 am	The Great Bel Air Frog Jumping Contest	Location: Shamrock Park. Registration 10:30 am 2 Frog Limit per Entrant
11:00 am	Bicycle Registration & Rodeo	Location: Pennsylvania Avenue Parking Lot. Trophies for Best Decorated Bike (boys AND girls); awards for ages 5 and under; 6-8; 9-10; 11-13
11:00 am	Uncle Sam Says	Location: Shamrock Park. Ages 5-7, 8-10, 11-13, 14-Adult
11:30 am	Watermelon Eating Contest	Location: Shamrock Park. Trophies for ages 6 and under; 7-10; 11-16; 17-Adult
4:30-6:30 pm	Parade Unit Staging	Parade staging takes place in the streets radiating out from the 2012 starting point, which is the intersection of Gordon and Bond Streets. Specific instructions for staging, arrival, routes to get to the staging, etc., will be sent to parade entrants if their entry applications have been accepted. If your application has been accepted, and if by June 24, 2012, you have NOT received such paperwork, please call 410-893-1700 immediately. Additionally, please select this link for on-line versions of parade staging instructions.
6:00 pm	BEL AIR JULY 4 PARADE	Map of the Parade Route (2012 version) The 2012 Parade will start at the intersection of E. Gordon Street and North Main Street, at the "Welcome to Bel Air" sign, and proceed down the renovated N. Main Street to Baltimore Pike, then south to left on Kenmore. 9:30 pm (approximate)	2012 Fireworks Display	Map of Fireworks (2012 version). As of July 8, 2011, the 2012 fireworks will be launched from Rockfield Park. Spectators may watch from any permitted area in or around the Town of Bel Air. Please obey no-entry zones (see maps). If the fireworks are cancelled due to inclement weather, they will be launched instead (weather permitting) on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at approximately 9:30 pm.
